Presentation board

This board presents all the perspectives of visual information and the over all functions of this stool design. This board shows different strengths, features and advatages and functions of the stool which is described in the text

Animation- Final design

The video animation above gives the viewers a closer look at the design. It gives the viewer a 360 degree rotation around all angles aswell as close ups of key features

Sketch up- Final deisgn

For the final developmental adjustments I have made the seat platform one whole object for a more simple visual effect. the chair has a 360 degree swivel mechanism which allows the person sitting on the chair to move around freely

Ergonomic office chair

Equip Office Furniture - Ergo Office Chair Operating Instructions

There are a few different main types of ergonomic office chairs and each type must be chosen carefully to match your daily routine. Many people assume they can buy one type of chair and use it for various functions throughout the day. While this is possible, and most people do it, it is not necessarily the right way to go about the situation if you're trying to be conscious of ergonomics.

Interacting and engageing with the human body

interacts and engages with the human body for inspiration on my design

The Kneeling Chair

Function with the body: A kneeling chair is a type of chair for sitting in a position with the thighs dropped to an angle of about 60 to 70 degrees from vertical (as opposed to 90 degrees when sitting in a normal chair), with some of the body's weight supported by the shins.
As in any chair, movement and variation are the key to long term comfort. The human body was built to move, not sit still. As for the kneeling chair, proper understanding of its basic concept and use can lead to a higher level of success. Proper use of the chair involves periodic relief of the bent knees which can easily be accomplished by alternatively flexing or extending each leg from time to time.

Unique: Function/ program and form of the item in its context

A variety of different types of chairs and looked at the function/ program and form of the item in its context

The Barcelona Chair

Function in its context: The functional design and elements of it that were patented by Mies in Germany, Spain and the United States in the 1930s have since expired. The Barcelona chair was manufactured in the US and Europe in limited production from the 1930s to the 1950s. In 1953, six years after Reich's death, van der Rohe ceded his rights and his name on the design to Knoll, knowing that his design patents were expired. This collaboration then renewed popularity in the design.

Materials and form: The frame was initially designed to be bolted together, but was redesigned in 1950 using stainless steel, which allowed the frame to be formed by a seamless piece of metal, giving it a smoother appearance. Bovine leather replaced the ivory-colored pigskin which was used for the original pieces.

Garden Egg Chair

Function in its context: The body of the garden egg chair consists of a hard, resistant shell as where the inside represents the garden egg chair's softer side, with a detachable textile cover on the comfortable cushion. Both the outer shell and the interior are available in a series of colours, allowing for enough mixing and matching to ensure a garden egg chair which best reflects one's personality. In order to find a unique piece of design furniture for yourself, customize your own garden egg chair right here. The garden egg chair is perfect for outdoor use all year around, and will take no harm from a life frequented by rain or snow at times. However, the versatility of the garden egg chair makes it also a real eye catcher for any indoor area as well.

Materials and forms: The garden egg chair is a unique piece of design furniture originating from the late 60s. Being redesigned for the 21st century, this portable and light weight garden chair completely revived as a one of a kind among garden furniture. The unique egg-shaped design of the garden egg chair makes it completely waterproof when flipping down the top.

The Ball Chair

Functions in its context: The Ball Chair or Globe Chair as it's called sometimes - was designed by using one of the most simple geometric forms - the ball. Described as beings "a room within a room" for the day (or the weekend) with a martini and a book and never sit in the same position twice. a cozy and calm athmosphere, protecting outside noises and giving a private space for relaxing or having a phonecall. Turning around its own axis on the base the view to the outer space is variable for the user and thus he is not completely excluded from world outside.

Materials and forms: The construction has been designed to withstand heavy use and is highly durable. All fabrics within our offerings have been rated for flame and stain resistance, and feature high rub counts, making them ideal for commercial or home use.

Ordinary: Function/ program and form of the item in its context

A variety of different types of chairs looking at the function/ program and form of the item in its context.

The Barstool Chair

Function in its context: Barstools are a type of stool often with a foot rest which, because of their height and narrowness, are designed for seating in a public houses or bar. However, barstools are becoming more popular in homes, usually placed at the kitchen counter or at a home bar. Barstools are becoming more popular because their varied styles not only are more appealing than the common wooden bar stool but actually accentuate the theme of a home. Bar stools allow for a higher view when eating, drinking, or socializing and can add to the atmosphere, given the right bar stool. here are many different constructions.

Materials and form: Barstools are often made of wood or metal. There are bar stools with and without armrests, back, and padding on the seat surface. Barstools can range from basic wooden designs to extremely detailed ones with a custom height for the perfect fit. Extra tall and extra short are common features, as well as indoor bar stools and outdoor bar stools. Some bar stools have backs, while most do not.

The Bench Chair

Function in its context: A bench is a piece of furniture, on which several people may sit at the same time. In public areas, benches are often donated by persons or associations, which may then be indicated on it, e.g. by a small plaque. Some hobos sleep on benches as beds, because they have no where else to go.

Materials and form: Benches are typically made of wood, but may also be made of metal, stone, or synthetic materials. Many benches have arm and back rests; some have no back rest and can be sat on from either side

The Office Chair

Function in its context: The office chair was strategically designed to increase the productivity of clerical employees by making it possible for them to remain sitting at their desks for long periods of time. A swiveling chair with casters allowed employees to remain sitting and yet reach a number of locations within their work area, eliminating the time and energy expended in standing

Materials and Form: The wooden saddle seat was designed to fit and support the body of a sitting employee, and the slatted back and armrests provided additional support to increase the employee’s comfort. Like modern chairs, many of these models were somewhat adjustable to provide the maximum comfort and thus the maximum working time.

Rethinking form and function

A brief introduction into the history of the chair

Chairs as you can imagine have a long history, for as long as there has been man (and woman) there has been the need to sit down on something comfortable. Throughout history chairs have reflected the status of the person sitting on them.

The size, decoration and sheer ornateness of the chair saying a lot about the person sitting in it. Indeed in classical times to the time of the pharaohs, the chair was reserved for the high and mighty, only kings, lords and bishops were allowed chairs at all, the rest of the populace had to do with sitting on chests, benches or stools.

A chair is a stable, raised surface used to sit on, commonly for use by one person. Chairs often have the seat raised above floor level, supported by four legs. However, a chair can have three legs (in a triangle shape) or could have a different shape depending on the criteria of the chair specifications. A chair without a back or arm rests is a stool, or when raised up, a bar stool. A chair with arms is an armchair and with folding action and inclining footrest, a recliner. A permanently fixed chair in a train or theater, is a seat or air seater when riding, it is a saddle and bicycle seat, and for an automobile, a car seat or infant car seat. With wheels it is a wheel chairand when hung from above, a swing.

"Throughout history chairs have reflected the status of the person sitting on them"

The church and the chair have an even deeper connection, as the word "chair" derives from the Latin "cathedra", the connection being the designation of a church that was the "seat" of a bishop as a cathedral. The chair however goes far further back than Latin however, the Egyptians having created some highly ornamental chairs for their pharaohs, while the Ancient Greeks way back in 1400BC were building chairs with four sturdy wooden legs, their design, the klismos being adopted by the Romans who introduced it in all the territories they conquered. Chairs were developed rich carvings and polychromatic surface treatments for the important members of society, but by the mid 1650's chairs became common and were often upholstered.
